CE marking of steel structures – what does it mean?

CE marking certifies that the relevant steel structure or steel component has been manufactured and assessed in accordance with applicable requirements and standards. In order to CE mark steel structures, the following are required, among other things:

  • Certified welding personnel
  • WPSs prepared in accordance with applicable standards
  • Traceability of Materials
  • Planning of Welding Work by a Certified Welding Coordinator
  • Quality management according to DS/EN ISO 3834
  • Documentation Throughout the Production Process

EN 1090 Certification – What Do EN 1090-1 and EN 1090-2 Mean?

EN 1090 is the core series of standards for the execution and documentation of steel and aluminum structures. For the customer, the difference between Part 1 and Part 2 is particularly relevant because they cover different aspects of the requirements.

DS/EN 1090-1 addresses requirements for the assessment of performance, documentation, and CE marking of structural components, while DS/EN 1090-2 establishes the technical requirements for the execution of steel structures.

At HRS, EN 1090 certification means that production is carried out in accordance with documented procedures and that the necessary CE documentation can accompany the finished structure.

Steel Structures in EXC1, EXC2, and EXC3

HRS certification covers the execution classes EXC1, EXC2, and EXC3. This makes it possible to manufacture steel structures for projects with varying requirements for execution, inspection, and documentation.

CE marking of steel structures certifies that the relevant structural component has been assessed and manufactured in accordance with the requirements applicable to the product. DS/EN 1090-1 includes, among other things, requirements for documentation and CE marking of structural components. For the customer, this means that the structure is accompanied by a documented process and the relevant CE documentation.
